Superman-ish DSLR’s on the way

The world of handheld cameras have shifted violently across the “what cool stuff can I do now” plateau with the introduction of the Canon 550d (or the Rebel T2i in the US). I’m not a Canon advocate by any means, but this piece of equipment even got me thinking twice.

The 18 MP resolution, the ability to shoot in 1080p HD, a super fast DIGIC 4 processor are to name a few, some of the features to be packed into the 550d, albeit a bit small in the hands for my liking. With newer versions of the Panasonic Lumix and Canon Ixus sporting HD capabilities, the capabilities by adding HD video onto a DSLR open a whole new chapter in the market for marketing gurus in the camera industry.

Mastering HD video skills on a device which sits neatly on your palm is a difficult task, but add in a tripod, an external mic and hey presto you can be shooting TV quality documentaries in no time. This could quickly call the end of the traditional handycam as many new purchases for still and moving footage can be obtained from a device starting from £650 including the 18-55mm kit lens. It’s no longer DSLR v point and clicks, the evolution is creating the battleground for DSLR’s v digital camcorders.

Photoego – www.photoego.co.uk

Hey Happy Snapper – you think you’re good enough?

Photoego is embarking on nothing new, but something exciting for damn sure.

I was walking through the city last Sunday, and wandered into Spitalfields on the first decent day of sunshine this year. I should have expected what I was about to witness and no kidding, tens upon tens of photographers within a Usain Bolt sprint track, were all clicking away at the rough and the smooth the quirky market exposes. Click click click, some on their Casio point and shoot, some on their Canon 50d all crouching, jumping, invading people’s space just to get that interesting angle they can be proud of.  The passion for capturing the moment is by no means dead; so relinquish your Photoego.

Photoego is shouting down the traditional stock image; perfectly manicured in a studio with equally the right amount of photoshop make-up. Hey, I love photoshop to get those creative veins pumping, but whatever happened to seeing something through someone elses eyes. Those dramatic, thought provoking, heart rendering images that make us all stop and think. You know which image I’m talking about, you have one, special to you – and so do we all.

Photoego is looking for a few good women, men, aliens - we dont care, as long as you have a passion to capture moment stopping images, whether it’s on traditional film, your run of the mill point and click or your million quid SLR send it over. “Creativity, Quality, & Surprise Us” is all you need to remember. Send them in to creative@photoego.co.uk and we’ll send you our rewarding photographer charter if we like your stuff. Good luck!
